Baking with Candy – just a gimmick or a real trend?

Sometimes the best ideas come from rethinking the classics. That’s exactly what is happening with baking using candy. Instead of only using chocolate or standard ingredients, more and more people are adding well-known sweets directly into their recipes.

What used to seem unusual is now a regular part of social media. On TikTok and Instagram, you can see cakes, cookies and desserts made with brands like Oreo, Reese’s or KitKat. The advantage is obvious: you take flavors people already know and love, and turn them into something new.

Recipe: KitKat Lemon Sponge Cake

Ingredients:

  • 200 g flour
  • 150 g sugar
  • 150 g butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • 100 ml milk
  • 2–3 KitKat Lemon bars

Preparation::

  • Cream the butter and sugar together  
  • Add the eggs one at a time and mix well 
  • Combine flour, baking powder and salt, then add to the mixture 
  • Pour in the milk and mix until smooth 
  • Cut the KitKat Lemon into small pieces
  • Gently fold the pieces into the batter 
  • Pour the batter into a greased baking tin 
  • Bake at 180°C for about 40–45 minutes

Tip

Do not cut the KitKat pieces too small, so they remain visible in the cake and don’t completely melt during baking.

Balance is important here as well. Too much candy can make the cake overly sweet, while too little won’t have much effect. The right amount enhances the flavor without overpowering it.

Baking with candy fits perfectly into current trends. It’s less about creating completely new recipes and more about combining familiar things in a new way. That’s exactly what makes these ideas easy to recreate while still standing out.
